Love, Joy, Peace...
Board of Deacons

The Board of Deacons consists of 3 to 6 church members who have been elected by the congregation to a three-year term. The deacons are the service arm of the church and minister to those who are sick or in special need.

The Board of Deacons is active in many areas providing service and care to members of our congregation and community who were in need. All of the Deacons have the responsibility to make calls and visits to members of the congregation and keep informed on those who need help.

Here are some of the ministries our Deacons support: Sending Cards, Arranging Meals for Those in Need, Hosting Receptions for Memorial Services, Providing Transportation, Preparing for and Serving Communion, and Holiday Food Baskets.

A significant amount of the Deacon effort revolves around providing food for those with limited resources to feed themselves and their families. We have a bin in the Narthex to collect food for the St Michael’s Church food pantry,  At holiday time, the Salvation Army provides names of community families in need. The Board of Deacons organizes fund-raising to provide money for holiday food baskets for these families.

Although not an official responsibility of the Deacons, Byron Butler,  assumed the responsibility for sending out requests for prayers to the prayer chain, a group of individuals who pray for those in need of comfort and healing for various health situations.

In a more personal expression of love and concern, members of the Board visit church members and friends recovering from illness in the hospital and at home.

Calls are made and greeting cards are sent out to members to express our support.

Our Board of Deacons is ready to be of service to all members of our congregation and community throughout the year.
