Love, Joy, Peace...

Our church is governed by a group of elected elders called the Session.  The Session of Ridgecrest Presbyterian Church consists of 4 to 6 elders, who together with the pastor(s), exercise leadership, government, spiritual discernment, and discipline and have responsibilities for the life of a congregation as well as the whole church.

The elders have several committees, below are descriptions of the committees and some of the work that they accomplish.

During Lent we are having these gatherings with a potluck dinner (soup and sides) and then reading a devotional passages.

Mission & Outreach Committee
Our church community has a commitment to fund mission initiatives with the surplus from our operating budget. Often the congregation is surveyed, where members choose their top three preferences for organizations to receive mission funding.

Cents-Ability offerings are received monthly, with half of the proceeds supporting the Presbyterian Hunger program and half remaining with our church and are used for funding food needs in our community.

Our congregation supports two of the special offerings of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
– One Great Hour of Sharing offering received during the Palm Sunday/Easter time frame
– Christmas Joy Offering, received on Christmas Eve and during the Christmas Day worship services.

Worship & Music Committee
Our worship services goal is to be meaningul and fulfilling to our souls as the word of God was preached with guidance of the Holy Spirit and music.

In addition to the regular Sunday morning worship services, special services may be scheduled for Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and candle light Christmas Eve services. Other observances have included Grandparents Day, World Wide Communion, Veterans Day and a special service on Thanksgiving Day inviting the community to worship with our congregation.

Members of this committee are also in charge of changing sanctuary banners to reflect the seasons and holidays

The Deacons prepare the bread, grape juice, and wine for communion, Elders and Deacons serve communion. We provide a gluten free alternative bread, for those who require an alternative.

Building & Grounds Committee
RPC regularly welcomes a variety of folks to make use of our facility. That the facility is shared with others is one of the ways we show ourselves as faithful stewards.

We also demonstrate our stewardship as we regularly maintain our facility and grounds. Frequent work parties, garden “parties,” special clean-up days, and volunteer church cleaning assure the facility is available for our own use—as well as for use by others folks.

Personnel Committee
This committee handles interview/hiring for church personnel, they also recommend Terms of Call, salary increases, and other personnel related items to the congregation for the pastor.
